How Favour made a real impact during her government relations internship
For her capstone unit, Favour secured an internship within ºìõ¹åÉçÇø's government relations team. She was craving deep insight into the world of politics and public policy – a world she hoped to enter as a professional one day.
She got to work quickly – developing funding proposals, writing research budget bids and even hosting politicians on ºìõ¹åÉçÇø’s Hawthorn campus. The insight she gained, and mentorship she received from the team, was invaluable.
Favour completed her internship with critical transferable skills she’ll take with her wherever she goes. Now, she’s ready to embark on a career with impact.

FAVOUR: My name is Favour. I've just recently completed a double degree in business and arts.
In this Capstone unit, I worked with ºìõ¹åÉçÇø's government relations team because I wanted to get an insight into the world of politics and public policy, and I also wanted to learn from ºìõ¹åÉçÇø's experienced government relations professionals. I found the unit to be rewarding because it provided me with the opportunity to work in a real-world environment and apply the skills that I've learned throughout my BA in a professional setting.
I developed a funding proposal for Children's University. I also helped with hosting politicians who visited campus. I helped write budget bids to secure funding for ºìõ¹åÉçÇø's research efforts, and I also participated in a lot of meetings, and I got an insight into tertiary corporate governance. Throughout this experience, I've been able to develop my resilience and time-management skills, which has made me more employable.
My key takeaway from doing the BA is that there are so many transferable skills that you can develop, such as critical thinking and written communication skills. I've found my BA and this unit particularly valuable because not only have I been able to apply the skills that I've developed throughout my BA into this experience, but I think I can also transfer the skills that I've gained into the real world and make an impact, for sure.
