Eliza studied a Bachelor of Aviation, Graduate Certificate of Aviation (Piloting) at ºìõ¹åÉçÇø. During an industry project briefed by a Singapore Airlines captain, she gained real industry connections that led to exciting career opportunities. Meanwhile, in flight school, she built real skills and confidence in the cockpit.

Taking off
At CAE Melbourne Flight Training, Eliza got in the air from as early as week three. ‘I had a great instructor. She let me have as much hands-on time as I could from the moment we set off,’ she says.
Over time, Eliza learned to fly on her own, gaining both her private and commercial flight licenses.
‘After you get your hours up, that's when the more advanced stuff starts happening,’ she says. ‘I enjoyed the challenge of learning a different type of flying compared to a single engine and flying visually.’
‘Flying just feels so liberating’, Eliza says. ‘You're just in a plane by yourself, you're in total control, you're trusted with this aircraft. That's definitely the most fun experience.’
Eliza’s industry brief
For her industry project, Eliza’s class was briefed by Felix, a captain from Singapore Airlines. In a team of four, they were tasked with surveying pilots from around the world to investigate how culture impacts how pilots communicate potential issues.
Eliza took on a leadership role, coordinating her team’s activities and communication, gaining soft skills, and unearthing a new interest in aviation research.
When it was time to present their findings, Eliza and her team came together in their finest attire and gave real, valuable insight to the experts.
It was a huge success. With Felix’s support, Eliza went on to present the research to international aviation associations, making an impression and lasting industry connections.
Flying high
After building a genuine friendship during the project, Eliza stayed in touch with Felix.
‘Felix and I have caught up after the project, and now we’re planning to write a research paper on landing protocols in aviation together’ Eliza says.
Eliza’s skills and experience in and out of the cockpit have given her the fuel to soar through her goals. And thanks to her connection with Felix, she’s even already got a second officer role waiting at Singapore Airlines when she’s ready.
