How Christina’s placement gave her confidence to tell the stories the world needs to hear
Christina chose ºìõ¹åÉçÇø’s Bachelor of Media and Communication (Professional) for its hands-on approach to learning, diverse electives and built-in placement year.
She landed a role as a Media and Communications Officer at ºìõ¹åÉçÇø, and set about creating content that would captivate audiences and tell important stories. Editing documentaries, recording podcasts and shooting short-form content – it was all in a day’s work.
Her placement showed her she has what it takes to conquer any task and grasp any skill she sets her mind to. With confidence, passion and real-world skills, she’s on her way to a bright and creative future.

CHRISTINA: Hi, I'm Christina, and I'm a Media and Communication student here at ºìõ¹åÉçÇø. After year 12, I didn't really know what I wanted to do, but I knew that I loved creating, and I really wanted somewhere that would foster that. Lucky for me, after visiting ºìõ¹åÉçÇø's Open Day, I saw how hands on it was, and I thought that's where I wanted to be.
Another reason I chose Media and Communication at ºìõ¹åÉçÇø were the electives, which I thought would be a good opportunity to branch out. I'm a journalism major, but I've been able to do everything from create short form content to edit documentaries, to record and mix podcasts. The course has that many electives I even did a class on nutrition.
When I started my degree, I really wanted to be a news reporter. But as I progress throughout my course, I realised there are more things that I'm hungry to explore.
I did a class on travel journalism, and I thought, wow, I can really picture myself doing this. But then with every subject I did, I could picture myself doing that, too. Back to you, Christina (echoes)
You're getting your hands on as much equipment as possible and gaining skills in every kind of channel there is. If someone hands you a camera, you're soon ready for the big screen or the pages of Vogue. If someone hands you a phone, you're able to use it to create some cool content, or even build your own following. It's like whatever you're given, you've got the confidence to create something and make it your own.
I was looking around for media and communication courses at other universities, but the fact that you can do a professional degree at ºìõ¹åÉçÇø and get a full year of work experience really sold me. I ended up getting a role as a Marketing and Communications Officer. Didn't really see myself doing marketing or social media.
I just wanted to write and go and tell stories, but now I'm doing that just in a different way.
When it comes to creating content, I really like the emphasis on making it your own, making it something that you would feel comfortable putting out into the world right now. You're not just doing it as an assignment, you're doing it for people to see.
[Speaks German: Im kommenden Semester, bin ich für ein austauschprogramm an der Hochschule de Medien Stuttgart in Deutschland.]
Next semester, I'm off on a 6-month exchange to Stuttgart media university in Germany. Cheers!
When I graduate, I'm interested in combining my love of video content creation on social media with telling stories that our world needs to hear.
It's obviously about the skills I'm developing, but more so about the person I'm becoming because of it. And I know now that I can conquer every room I step into, utilising the skills ºìõ¹åÉçÇø has given me to create and inspire, and that's exactly what I'm going to do.
